The Color Of Halloween

Guy Porfirio September 22, 2022

I can honestly say that the inspiration for this piece was purely color related. I was noticing the subtle change in daylight as we get close to the end of the year and how there’s an almost imperceptible shift in color. (Happy Autumnal equinox.) It made me want to race right home and break out the Halloween decorations. Which was probably an instinctual response to shorter days, less sunlight, and more candy.

There are two large dogs in my neighborhood that constantly bark at, for the most part, nothing at all. I know if I walked over and asked them what they’re barking at, they’d say… “Not a clue. It’s probably an instinctual response to movement, sound, or smell of some kind.”

We all have our natural impulses.

Whether it’s shorter days or brightly colored candy wrappers, there are a lot of really great colors associated with this time of year, which made this piece all the more fun to paint.
