19 paintings, 2 spots, 1 cover illustration and 494 words… give or take.
The hardest part of a book project is the waiting. After everything is done. All the illustrations, all the rewrites, all the blood, sweat, and tears in getting everything just right… and it’s finally finished—kind of. Now, it goes off to the printer for a good 6 months—a vital step in the process I might add. But for me, 6 months is a long time to wait. There are just so many things about this book that I’m chomping at the bit to get feedback on. So many funny parts, clever parts, and interesting parts.
This is the most fun I’ve ever had working on a picture book. What a ride! I finished My Grandma Lives in Arizona at the end of September. I went from working at 100 miles per hour, to a comfortable 45… and I already miss life in the fast lane! But, that’s OK, I’ll be back on that highway soon enough!
So… until then…
I will be at the Tucson Festival of Books on Sunday, March 16th, less than 2 weeks after my publication date! I’m looking forward to introducing my book to the world. Check out my presentations… I’ll have a lot to say!
