I recently spent the better part of a day traveling to visit family. Although it’s always great to finally get to where you’re going—getting past the “getting there” is even better. If I could time travel, I would just leapfrog over all the travel days, to start, and end, my vacation without all the fuss of cars, shuttles, airports, and airplanes.
But, this time, as luck, and, Delta Airlines would have it; there, on the seat back in front of me, was my own private video monitor! My own personal TV room complete with a full library of TV shows and movies. I immediately immersed myself in back-to-back Harry Potter movies… almost as good as time travel.
Half the fun of being an illustrator is creating situations that don’t exist, but tell a good story. I like to think of this as a “what if” proposition. Anything is possible, even Harry Potter. Telling a story so visually convincing it becomes real to the viewer. And so, this grapple tree really exists somewhere.
