I’ve noticed that the amount of coffee I drink each morning is directly related to the urgency of the current state of whatever deadline I’m working through — easy for me to say. Oddly enough, I drink less coffee when I’m taxed more creatively. It’s when things are going along smoothly that I need a bigger mug. I had a watercolor instructor at the American Academy of Art who once said that it’s important to make yourself as comfortable as possible while you're working. Holding a coffee mug, blasting my music, or streaming a movie while I work keep me quite comfortable. I also have a small refrigerator and a futon in my studio. If, like in some old twilight zone episode, the outside world completely evaporates, I may not notice for awhile.
