The inspiration for this piece came to me as a result of attempting to make limoncello for the first time. In case you’re interested—it didn’t go very well. So, I gave it another try, and that too, didn’t go very well. But I digress…
The upside of the whole experience was that the veritable mountain of lemons I had sitting on my kitchen countertop made the whole house smell—well—amazingly fresh! Mr. Clean had nothing on this bouquet. It made me want to plant lemon trees all around my house so I could bask in the scent of lemons all year round. Well, most of the year anyway.
And why not? I’ve had worse neighbors than lemon trees. How bad an idea could this actually be?
But really, what would I do with all those lemons? Unless I figure out how to actually make a decent limoncello, I’d be up a creek, or in this case, up to my knees.
So, I decided to buy my limoncello from a store, and go back to using Mr. Clean. Problem solved!
I did, however, learn a thing or two about the different types of lemons. I now have a greater appreciation for the lemon than I did going in. I’ve also grown very fond of adding lemon to my Pepsi, who knew?
