Guy Porfirio’s School Visits
The art of telling a story.

As an illustrator, I am as much a storyteller as I am an artist and I use pictures rather than words to tell my stories. I like to demonstrate this by verbally telling a story to my audience, and then sketching the same story, revealing how it wonderfully comes to life in picture form. It’s a great way of explaining the creative process I go through as I paint the pictures for my books. I will also show drawings at different stages of progress all the way up to the final painting, and finally how the pictures appear in the printed book.

I finish my presentation with a short video showing what a typical day in the life of a children’s book illustrator actually looks like and then answer questions from the audience.

Guy’s Sessions

An all day presentation is four sessions. Each session runs about 45-50 minutes. It is preferable to keep the group size to approximately 40 students per session. However, Guy can work with your schedules and group sizes if needed. The presentation is best for grades K-5, but can be adapted to older grades.

Sessions can be held in a classroom or the school library. Ten minute breaks should be scheduled between sessions, and time for book signing as well.

Guy’s Pre-Order Book Sales

Pre-order book forms will be provided prior to Guy’s visit. Guy can autograph the books for the children during the signing session.
